Starfish Mobile kicks off 2009 Confederations Cup Mobile Trivia Game with MTN Swaziland
With the kick-off of the much anticipated FIFA 2009 Confederation Cup, Starfish Mobile has teamed up with MTN Swaziland in launching the “Send Me To The Soccer Competition” promotion to test the local fan’s general knowledge soccer skills.
This is the fourth major soccer themed mobile trivia game to be initiated and run by Starfish Mobile on the continent and we have had huge success doing so. The latest game is based on the Confederation Cup, which boasts teams such as Brazil, Spain, Italy, Egypt, Iraq, New Zealand, USA and the host nation South Africa.
The 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, which brings together regional champions from all over the world, is taking place in SA from 4 to 28 June 2009. The tournament is played in the World Cup host country exactly a year before the Football World Cup begins. In most cases the Confederations Cup is a true test for the host country’s World Cup readiness, in this case SA’s 2010 World Cup.
Starfish Mobile believes the mobile trivia game concept is a wonderful opportunity to create a high level of excitement for local fans.
“The fact that the game is SMS based it allows for everyone to participate and is not dependant on a subscriber’s handset or needing WAP/GPRS access”, says Steve Morelli, Starfish Mobile Swaziland Country Manager.
The Soccer Trivia game officially launched in Swaziland on the 1st of May 2009 and will run throughout the tournament. Five lucky MTN Swaziland subscribers will win a trip of a lifetime consisting of a fully paid trip for two to South Africa to watch Italy versus Brazil on the 21st June 2009.
Participants have to answer a set of general knowledge questions based on the history of the Confederations Cup and of all the past and present participating countries. Participants have to initiate a request in order to receive their trivia questions and they accumulate points for correct answers.
“This is a great way for MTN Swaziland to further enhance it’s positioning with soccer in the country and in leveraging it’s sponsorship of the Confederations Cup and World Cup in 2010”, said Samkeliso Dlamini of MTN Swaziland.
Starfish Mobile International is now one of the biggest Mobile Strategy, Content and Media companies on the African continent and is currently operating in 17 countries and is connected to 23 Mobile Operators. The company has since its inception run over 2500 interactive client campaigns for over 60 FMCG brands across the African continent.
